Snapshots: Musial Memorial
Hello everyone! This is a new illustration I just finished for the Beacon. It's based around the pseudo-memorial that has sprung up around the Stan Musial statue at Cardinals stadium here in St. Louis. Stan "The Man" was a long time baseball player and MVP here in St. Louis for many years, and his recent passing has hit the city pretty hard.

A Quick Portrait of the Family...
Hi Everybody- I found myself with some free time in the studio on Wednesday, so I decided to experiment a bit and produce a quick illo-portrait of my loving little family. And since illustration is magic, I made us fancy people form the 1920s.

Hey Diddle Diddle....
And now, for something completely different...
I've decided to start producing some more kid-friendly illustrations to add to my repertoire of historical mash-ups and politicians. In the spirit of this commitment, I have made this little illustration based on the classic nursery rhyme "Hey Diddle Diddle".

"Hey Diddle Diddle, the cat and the fiddle,
the cow jumped over the moon!
The little dog laughed to see such a sight,
and the dish ran away with the spoon."
I made them all astronauts. For the obvious reasons. I also made the decision to use primary and secondary colors and use bookmark framing dimensions, so children can use it to both learn colors and later on to mark places in their books. Enjoy!

Traveling Around All Over
Hi all,
Just got back to the studio after a ton of holiday traveling. Had an unexpected trip to New York last week that gave me the oppurtunity to visit one of my all time favorite sketch destinations- the Natural History Museum.
I took colored stock and brush pens with me to get a variety of colorful sketches. Sadly, the crowds on hand and my own time restrictions didn't give me more then a half hour or so for each sketch, but I figured they would be a fun addition to the blog to show my "exercise" outside of normal projects.
This middle image is actually from my layover in Baltimore. I'm not sure what the giant crab and elephant were doing there.

The Ivory Trade
I have just wrapped up work on this new illustration based around articles like this from NPR that have been cropping up over the past year. I have something of a soft spot for pachyderms- having spent hours in my past sketching mammoths and mastodons, along with my known hobby of armchair politics. As such, it is frustrating to hear about the rebound in poaching the last several years.
Any one who has seen my work knows that I rely a great deal on humor. For this piece that avenue just didn't seem appropriate. Regardless, it was fun stretching in to more editorial work, and I hope to do much more of it in the future.
