It's been a busy month! Perhaps you have been following the news recently and heard about these fascinating dolphin assassins that had escaped containment in the former USSR. Sadly, the story turned out to be fake, but I still decided to produce a personal illustration based on it.

Alligator for Lent
Did you know you can eat Alligator as a meat substitute during Lent? Neither did I, but once I heard about it on the radio I decided to do this illustration.

Prizes Rewarded for Picture-Pun-Postcard-Print-Palooza!
Greetings all!
I am happy to announce that all the winners in the contest have received their rewards! I was happy with how my first contest went- and the over-all winner ended up requesting a pretty neat animal. I will keep you all posted on updates and new contests in the future. In the interim, here is the overall winner's choice of Animal: a Chinese Dragon.

Snapshots: The Zoo Water Tunnel
The St. Louis Zoo added a new water tunnel recently, and seeing as how I love drawing animals it seemed the perfect subject for a Snapshot for the St. Louis Beacon. You can find the piece here on the Beacon's website. Try and find the Rhino!

Big Box Mergers: Too late to count?
This is an interesting trend in business: two large competitors are both suffering in a rapidly changing business environment. Unable to keep up with the times, they merge together in an effort to maintain market share. One such merger was announced last week in the coupling of Office Depot and Office Max.
Such an event provides a wealth of editorial illustration opportunities (indeed, I am hoping to produce more work around this idea). To commemorate this grouping, I made this illustration of two robots selling office supplies. Cutting edge technology, now faded (like the big box store concept itself) reduced to joining forces to make an impact.
I'll provide some more behind the scenes work of this on behance later this week.

The Picture-Pun-Postcard-Print-Palooza!
Hello faithful blog followers, facebook fans, twitter followers and beloved clients! Welcome to the first annual PICTURE-PUN-POSTCARD-PRINT-PALOOZA! To show my gratitude to everyone who has helped me and supported me in my career, I wanted to do something big that involved fun, postcards, and a lot of puns for everybody.
I have sent
out over 100 postcards (see above) with an individual pun on the back of each
one to everyone who has been there for me in the past few years. BUT, if I
forgot you (I am only human) don't worry! I have figured out a way for everyone
to join the fun.
THE PICTURE
PUN PRIZES AND CONTEST!
5 First
Place prizes, 5 Second Place prizes, 1 GRAND prize!
You'll
notice 5 distinct posts below labeled A, B, C, D, and E. Each post has 25 of
the postcard picture puns (and maybe some repeats, because my brain got tired). Whoever gets all 25 correct (or the most correct, as
some of them are tricky) will be entered to win not 1 but 2 Animals in Suits
prints of your choice!
Post your
answers in a comment on the blog post (or, if you prefer not to give it away,
shoot me an e-mail). All the correct answer submissions will be put in a bowl,
and the winner and a second will be chosen at random. First place will win 2 AiS
prints, second place will win 1 AiS print. Once you win, I ask you what animals
you want, you tell me, and KAPOW- you get two signed prints in the mail!
BUT WAIT,
THERE'S MORE!
GRAND PRIZE!
If you can
guess all 125, you are entered for a chance to win an ORIGINAL Sam Washburn
drawing of EITHER an Animal in Suit of your choice or a caricature of your
choice done "Congress" style (gotta play to my strengths). That's
right, not a print but an original inked and colored piece of art for your
mantle (or fridge).
DEADLINE
I will
announce winners at the end of the month, February 28th. Best of luck to
everyone, and thanks again for all your support! And hey, if you'd like to
double your chances you could always go for the...
BONUS PRIZE!
If you tweet (@samuelwashburn) or favorite/share this post on my Facebook page, then you are
automatically entered in for a chance to win the bonus prize! The Bonus Prize
is a print of your choice from the 4 posted below.
And with
that, I am officially done with the longest blog post ever. Thanks again, and
off to the races!
